2021 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week: Spread awareness, stop resistance
SHPA members are leading charge during 2021 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), highlighting best practices to help stop the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
‘Every pharmacist has a role to play to spread awareness to preserve the power of antibiotics and stop resistance,’ says Minyon Avent, SHPA Infectious Diseases Leadership Committee member.
‘Pharmacists are key team members to ensure there are strategies in place for a standardised approach and robust clinical governance for the treatment of COVID-19.’
The Leadership Committee is encouraging all pharmacists, technicians and their hospital peers to use the hashtags #WorldAntimicrobialAwarenessWeek, #WAAW and #AntimicrobialResistance this week to ensure there are more conversations on this critical issue.
‘The message is simple, handle antimicrobials with care, and that has never been more important as we enter a new phase of living with COVID-19.
‘This is also not an issue restricted to hospitals – the 2021 theme “Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance” reminds us that antimicrobial resistance threatens the food, animal, agriculture and human health sectors, and we all have a part to play’.
